According to UNICEF, Pakistan ranks second on the list of countries with the most number of children out of school. Currently, an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 not attending school, representing 44 percent of the total population in this age group. This is because of a combination of multiple social issues, including poverty, social norms that discourage education, and the lack of educational facilities.
Roshan Sitara (Shining Star) Welfare School is located in Lahore, Pakistan. It is a non-profit organization that is responsible for providing quality education to kids from broken, underprivileged families, mostly those of the labor class. The aim of the school is to equip these children with education and skills to do much better for themselves and their families and to break the cycle of poverty.
